D'banj Cleared of Rape and Fraud Allegations by Nigeria Police and ICPC
Nigerian singer Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has been officially cleared of both rape and fraud allegations by the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) respectively.
The clean slate was granted after thorough investigations, with reports indicating that there was no evidence to substantiate the claims against the 'Fall-In-Love' crooner.
Rape Allegations:
In 2020, D’banj faced accusations of rape, leading to an investigation ordered by the Inspector General of Police. According to an affidavit deposed by Toheeb Lawal of Law Corridor before the District Court of Abuja, the police report, dated November 14, 2023, indicated that the investigation found no prima facie evidence, adduced facts, or corroborative evidence to establish the offense of rape and sexual assault against the singer.
Fraud Allegations:
D’banj was also falsely accused of fraud associated with the N-Power Programme of the Federal Government in late 2022. The ICPC, in a clarification dated November 29, 2023, with document number ICPC/OPS/SDD/SPT.LG/31/23, affirmed that there was no prima facie case of fraud against D’banj. The statement clarified that the singer was not under investigation for any fraud-related offense and that he was not involved in the misappropriation of government funds.
Legal Affirmation:
Toheeb Lawal, in his deposition filed before the Chief District Court of the Federal Capital Territory, further emphasized that D’banj was never a government official and never had access to government funds. The lawyer clarified that D’banj's involvement in the N-Power campaign was voluntary and that he did not receive any payment from anyone or the government.
The official clearance from both the Nigeria Police Force and the ICPC solidifies D’banj's innocence regarding the rape and fraud allegations. This legal resolution brings closure to the false accusations and underscores the importance of a fair and thorough investigation process.
